Flames lick ancient granite bones,

earth burns to birth new life,

beauty forged in flame and stone,

the island’s fierce heartbeat.

Moana’s poem speaks to the volcanic origins and

renewal of the Samoan islands, where destruction

and creation intermingle in a cycle of harsh beauty.
